An Interview with Brad Hudson *Special Segment Now Posted*

* Brad Hudson Special Segment Now Posted *

When you talk about the best distance running coaches in America right now, you inevitably end up talking Brad Hudson.  His innovative training techniques have helped hone the talent of top runners such as the American 5K record holder Dathan Ritzenhein (before his switch to Alberto Salazar) and the 2008 USA Half Marathon Champion James Carney, among many others.

Currently Brad is working with his training group, Marathon Performance, which has athletes in Eugene, Oregon; Portland, Oregon; Boulder, Colorado; and New York City.  Within this group are top American distance runners James Carney, Boaz Cheboiywo, Sally Meyerhoff, Tera Moody, and a school of others.

Brad has also recently tapped into a dream of his in writing his first book.  Run Faster is a “go to” book for me and has become a staple on many other coach’s shelves.

I had the chance to have a phone interview with Brad a few weeks ago on a variety of topics pertaining to high school running and coaching.

The videos will be introduced in daily segments based on the topics listed below.

Part 1:  Brad introduces himself and his coaching and athletic accomplishments.

Part 2:  Brad talks some about his innovative approach to training.

Part 3:  What is anaerobic vs. aerobic anyway? Brad talks about a topic every coach should be familiar with in energy systems.

Part 4:  Brad discusses what he believes to be important in the way of recovering between workouts.

Part 5:  What should an athlete look for in a college coach? How can high school coaches make the transition to college easier? Brad answers those questions here.

Part 6:  What do I do as a coach about the runner who can’t seem to get there mentally? Brad talks about that here.

Part 7:  Brad discusses what makes a good coach and who some of his best coaches were.

Part 8:  Brad talks about some of the runners he is coaching right now.
